In India, a cow is seen as ap particularly generous, docile creature, one that gives more than she takes and hence is deeply revered and protected. In ancient India cows and oxen were sacrificed to the gods and the meat was eaten. With the rise of Jainism and their philosophy of vegetarianism the Hindus, too, stopped eating meat. Being a Jain cows have always been sacred to our community. When the cows started frequenting Ujwala Ranch in early 2020 to drink water we thought of starting a project for the summer months when there is scarcity of hay for the cows.
This is the second year the cows come and visit us. Fresh grasses are sourced on a daily basis and fed to the cow
